On July 8, Mr. Gu Jinshan, Secretary of Party Committee and Chairman of SIPG, delivered a keynote speech on “accelerating the adoption of new energies to facilitate transition to low-carbon shipping”at the 2024 DSH International Shipping Innovation Conference. During the conference, Shanghai SIPG Energy Service Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange, Lingang Green Economic Development Co., Ltd., and Guohua Energy Investment  Hydrogen Company to jointly develop a hydrogen-based green energy trading platform.

Shanghai Port has become the first in China to offer green methanol SIMOPS bunkering. On April 10, 2024,  the country's first and largest methanol fuel bunkering barge "Haigang Zhiyuan", successfully completed a SIMOPS green methanol fuel bunkering operation for Maersk's 16,000 TEU methanol-powered container vessel "Astrid Maersk", at Guandong International Container Terminal in Yangshan Deep Water Port. Yangshan Deep Water Port has also become the first in Asia and the second in the world to achieve this milestone for large ocean-going vessels.

These initiatives underscore SIPG's commitment to green development and provide a solid foundation for a green and low-carbon ecosystem of the shipping industry. With the signing of the memorandum of cooperation to establish the hydrogen-based green energy trading platform, all involved parties will work together to establish the platform in the Lin-gang Special Area. The cooperation aims to create a comprehensive trading service for the entire hydrogen-based green energy industry chain, integrating the trading of green hydrogen, green methanol, green ammonia, and other hydrogen-based green products, as well as green hydrogen certificates and data services, thereby providing a platform and carrier for the efficient allocation of hydrogen-based green energy.
