From Production to Bunkering: Shanghai Completes Its First End-to-End Green Methanol Supply Chain

Developing a coordinated green-fuel bunkering network has become a new source of competitive advantage for SIPG, supporting both operational excellence and its transition to greener growth. On July 16, 2026, under the overall coordination of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government and as part of the Shanghai International Shipping Green Fuel Bunkering Center initiative led by the Shanghai Municipal Transport Commission, Haigang Zhiyuan, SIPG Energy's methanol bunkering vessel, successfully delivered 2,824 tonnes of locally produced green methanol to Arctic Tern, the first methanol dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) built for EUKOR Car Carriers, through a simultaneous ship-to-ship bunkering operation.

The operation marked three important milestones. First, the green methanol was produced in Shanghai through a local industrial supply chain. Second, it was stored within Shanghai's own storage and logistics network. Third, the bunkering operation was carried out by a Shanghai-based bunkering vessel. By integrating production, storage and bunkering entirely within the city, Shanghai has established a fully integrated green methanol supply chain, reinforcing its position as a key hub in the global green marine fuel network. The operation also marked the first large-scale bunkering of Shanghai-produced green methanol for a leading international Ro-Ro shipping operator. It is widely regarded as a replicable and scalable "Shanghai model" for supporting the decarbonization of global shipping.
